PopUp Box card with Happy Haunting

Eeeek!!!!   Number 5 in the series already!

Good morning everyone.  Today's project with the Happy Haunting collection from Craft Consortium is a Pop Up Box card.

This is going to be quite brief as I shared how to make this exact size last year.If you click here  it will take you to the instructions to make the base card.

To decorate it with the Happy Haunting papers, I matted all sides 1/4" smaller. I used the enamelled black spiders web paper on the bottom,

Designer Series Paper sizes

Base - Lower front 2 3/4 x 3 1/4

           sides 2@  2 3/4 x 1 3/4

Flaps - front   2 1/4 x 3 1/4

            sides   2@ 2 1/4 x 1 3/4

inside back cut from a panorama panel  3 1/4 x depth of panel  3 7/8

writing panel on the back - white 3 1/4 x 5 1/4

I fussy cut the images from the thick inside covers of the 6" paper pad and adhered to the top of the struts with wet glue.

The call-out words are from the wordy sheets and adhered to acetate strips with red liner tape.

Please be careful how far the call-outs overhang the edges of the card. Fold it as it will fit in the 6 x 6 envelope to give you a guide or use a larger envelope

13 Frights of Halloween 2023 - no 2

Slide and pop-up drawer project -

I've shared photos and a video on Social Media again of this lovely project I made a couple of years ago for the DT of Ctaft Consortium.   I never had any instuctions nor followed anyone else's tutorial; many years ago Craft Work cards released something similar with a Christms theme and I tried to remember how it worked.

Unfortunately the actual project was sent to CC HQ a long time ago so I can't measure and give exact  dimensions. Basically,  it was a simple  pull-out drawer with decorated sleeve. The magic came from the inside of the drawer - I decided how many pop-up rows I wanted and how far apart, then scored and creased a long strip of card - valley, mountain, valley,   space,  repeat.   then I glued the inside of the mountain and next valley fold together to make a ridge - just like making memory albums bindings.

For example, if you cut a piece of card 3" x 5"    score   1", 1 1/2,   2,   3,   3 1/2,    4,                              fold and burnish well  as                            valley, mountain, valley,        valley, mountain, valley

place a strip of double sided tape between the 1 1/2" and 2" score  lines and stick together also between 3 and 3 1/2 score lines.

This was adhered inside the drawer with strips of pretty papers between the ridges.  I stuck Puffy stickers  onto the face of the ridges so that as the drawer is opened, the stickers  just pop up!

Simples!   I hope this makes sense.  I am unable to post a video to my blog but if you go to FB or IG you can view it there.

13 Frights of Halloween 2023 - no 1

This really cute little self-closing treat bag is such a quick and easy make.  It was inspired by Keren Hughes and adapted for the Happy Haunting Collection. It has a wide base and flat top so the folds and clever shape  make the bag close.  I first made 2 years ago but it has been such a  popular project with left over  pages of  happy Haunting paper that I have reposted it and included in my series of 13 Frights of 2023 by popular demand.

It is made with a 6 x 6 1/2" paper.
  • along the long side score down at 3 and 6
  • turn and score 1 and 5 on shorter side
  • on back with ruler and scoring tool, score from bottom to first fold only at 3./4, 2 1/4 , 3 3/4, 5 1/4  then cut along these score lines with scissors (or use a trimmer) to the first fold only.
  • score from the top of the cut at an angle as diagram to to 1" fold line above. Burnish from both sides back and front
  • add ds tape or glue to tab and seal side. Fold box in half with join at left.
  • at the top also mark the same 3/4", 2 1/4, and cut with scissors at an angle to the top fold to shape the top of the box and make sure back and front are exactly the same.
  • gently fold and press on score lines
  • glue bottom 4 tabs to make box. The bag will now be wide at the bottom and flat at the top.
  • decorate with stamped sentiment
  • add sweets

The sharp folds and square shape bottom, give the bag rigidity and make the self-closing mechanism work.

Waggon Wheel Treat Box

Here is the fourth in my series of 13 Frights of Halloween  with the Happy Haunting collection from Craft Consortium. It’s a treat box for one of my favourite snacks – a Waggon Wheel chocolate bar and preferably a jammie one!

As I’ve already mentioned, I don’t have a lot of the collection left but when I looked at the toppers in the 12 x 12 pad I immediately thought of these biscuits. The hardest part was not eating the biscuit until after I had taken some photos! Rifling through the scraps, I found a couple of decoupage sheets and I managed to trim the base image down to decorate the front of the box and use the gorgeous pumpkin scraps for all the other

Here's how I made it

Base 8 ¼” x 5 ¼”  (so you can get two from an A4 or letter size sheet of card)

Score on the long side at 5/8, 3 7/8, 4 ½, 7 ¾

Turn card and score on shorter side  5/8, 3 7/8, 4 ½

See the YT video for instructions

Stepper card with Festive & Fun from SU

Good morning from a warm and sunny Hampshire. Today is the 6th September and the Winter Mini Catalogue has gone live today. 🎊🎉.     There are so many lovely collections that might tempt you so beware! Also take a look at the online exclusives as there are some extra papers available today.

   SEE THE CATALOGUE HERE

If you would like to order your supplies (min £35 ) through my online shop (click on the link above and you will go straight there)  quote the host code FN3HP9CN at checkout for a free
card kit from me if you are in uk. Designs may vary according to availability.

If you find your order is £99 or more, join me team as a demo to get 20% off the order (so get even more for the same money!!) message me/email to discuss.

I have the cut list for the really cheery card I shared last week - the gorgeous giraffe from the Festive and Bright stamp set combined with the Merry Bold and Bright Designer Series Papers. When I ordered this set early as a demonstrator, I thought that the vibrant papers would be useful for birthdays too. Lots of people have winter birthdays and the back of these papers have great colourful geometric designs with no Christmas elements that can be used all year round. I’ve been cutting into these papers so much that I doubt there will be much left for birthdays!

I couldn't help myself using 3 different papers with this card - just to showcase more, as they are all so cheerful.

Cut list

  • Base: Poppy Parade    4 1/8"  x 11 1/2"   (10.5 x 29 cms)   scored at 1" / 2" / 6 3/4   (2.5 / 5 /17 cms)

          + extra piece cut across the width A4    2 1/2"   x 8 1/4"  ( 6.3 x 20.5cms)   scored at   2 1/2" (                 6.3)

  • DSP: side strips 2 @ 3/4" x 4 1/2  ,  front 3/4 x 3 7/8  ,  centre 2 1/4 x  4 3/4
  • writng panel: Basic white  3 7/8 x 4 1/2

Multi fold scrapbuster card with Craft Consortium collections

In Spring, this year I made a flip/flap journal with the “Let Spring Begin” Collection from Craft Consortium after having been inspired by one of my fellow DT members Elisabeth Hogarth with her Christmas Cardmaking series.

I will need a card for an Autumn themed Happy Mail swap very soon and the lovely Happy Harvest papers from Craft Consortium came to mind;  unfortunately, I only have a few pages left plus scraps after having made lots of DT samples for upcoming TV shows. Here is a reduced size slimline card, I can’t really call it a journal, but it is similar in style to the earlier flip-flap journal.

These are very quick and easy to make and the small one is great for using up strips and scraps of 6 x 6 Designer Series Papers so I am definitely going to add this style to my Scrap buster list!

Materials and cut list

Base -  1 sheet A4 or US Letter size card 200gsm+  ( I would have used the Craft Consortium co-ordinating card but my scraps are too small)

From this cut 6” x 8” main piece, plus 2 strips 2” x 6” to strengthen the edges of card

Papers – 10 @ 1 7/8 x 1 7/8 squares

                   4 @ 7/8 x 1 7/8

for back – 4 @  white card 1 7/8 x 1 7/8 to write message

optional  1 7/8 x 5 7/8 to decorate the strengthening strips

Belly band or ribbon to close

Instructions

  1. Divide the base into 2” squares by scoring at 2,4,6 on long side and 2,4 on short side.
  2. with long side at top, score at 1” mark between the top and bottom score lines
  3. turn card to short side across trimmer and cut down between 1 and 7” score marks. Repeat on other side of base.
  4. only fold the score lines going DOWN the card NOT across. accordion fold these as picture. Burnish well.
  5. If using ribbon to close, adhere to back of sides and adhere strengthening panels to back of base covering the edges of ribbon. Top tip - add glue to base not panels or you will glue the card shut!
  6. spread out base and decide where you want to adhere your squares of DSP for best effect.
  7. on back adhere white card
  8. make a belly band to close – I used matching washi tape to decorate mine and covered the join with a circle of white card, decorated with fussy cut images from papers. I did add foam pads as this will probably need large letter stamp within UK anyway because of the thickness of the card when folded.

Metric –Base – 15 x 20 cms - divide your card into 5cm squares.

for step 2 – score at 2.5 cms. Mat base with squares 4.7cms x 4.7

I hope you like this scrap busting card and as always tag me on Instagram or Facebook if you try it.

I would like to credit both Elisabeth Hogarth Designs and Laura Stranks  who have inspired me with their own makes. They may not be the original designers of this card style and I will credit any other designers who let me know that they should be included in my thanks, as I know how upsetting it can be to be overlooked.

Trifold Twist Card

Hello everyone, I’m back again with another fun fold with these two fun sets that I’m showcasing at the moment; the vibrant Merry Bold and Bright DSP teamed with the whimsical Festive & Fun stamp set.

This fold really grabbed my attention as it starts in one orientation and then twists as it is opened into the opposite direction 😱. How cool is this! I did intend to use a ribbon closure on the card like the examples I show on the video at the beginning but how many themes do we start with one idea and then it evolves. As I left out the ribbon, I experimented with a latch fold closure using the circle dies. Actually, as I say, you can leave out the closure as once the card has been made and flattened, it will stay closed. If you do want to add ribbon, make sure you watch the video first as I tell you when to add it.

The card is not difficult but you do need to cut, score and fold exactly. I show you how to get the scoring right. Note that I opted to use non-directional paper but I also show you cards with directional papers from the Online exclusive One Horse Open Sleigh DSP. Big Tip! check the direction of the papers and the inside writing card at least 3 times before adhering! Ask me how I know 😂 You can make this portrait or andscape but you need to decide before adhering DSP!

Card Recipe:

Base - I sheet A4 card trimmed to 10 1/4 ", score at 5 1/2" the cut in half lengthwise. Turn one upside down as in video with long parts overlapping. Measure 4 1/8 " from bottom right and score diagonally to top corner, then do same but with top left of left card and score down to bottom left.

(metric 10.5 x 26 cms. measure and score at 10.5 cms)

DSP - centre panel 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cms)  Check direction you want your card to open and cut diagonally. adhere right to the diagonal edge.

side strips 2@4" x 1/2" (10 x 1.3cms)

Basic white for inside 4" x 5 1/4" (10.5 x 13.5cms)

narrow strip DSP if desired - as front strips

ribbon for tie-closure or make latch-fold as video with partial die-cutting of smaller circle, leaving strip to slip under larger circle. trim to length.

My moose was coloured to co-ordinate with the DSP - see colours below
