Dolphin Delight

 It's a beautiful sunny morning here in Hampshire, UK and I have another one of my Zigzag cards. I am getting quite addicted to these and also to the beautiful Floral waves papers. 

This one is made for the Facebook group Creative Minds Kind Hearts, so welcome if you have found me via this group. They have a weekly challenge starting Wednesdays and the challenge this week is one of the zigzag cards. I have updated the template with Mountain and Valley folds too. 

The mats were made in strips 1 1/4" wide

and the design Paper 1" wide as follows

If you are a metric maid I would make it 27 x 18cm with 3.5 cm indents for the edges. This leaves you with 3cm for mats and 2.5cm for design papers.

Bathtime bubbles Theatre - Tunnel card

Today I'm posting my fun theatre-tunnel card with the Enjoy the bubbles pop-out scene dies and stamps. I adapted a Theatre card tutorial by Sam Calcott using the front of the stage and pull out wings adding lace drapes for a more intimate boudoir atmosphere. I completely changed the back of the card adding a tunnel effect.

The back of the card actually has 3 layers - to give the idea of peeking through the curtains and into the room. I stamped and die cut this 3 times and snipped away to leave what I needed. Each layer was made 1/2" wider than the card. It was scored and folded at 1/4" on each side and the tab stuck to the sides with red-liner tape which made a 1/4" gap between the layers. As you stick the inside layers, gently make sure that the card will fold flat. 

(1) The outside layer has the bubbles only that are cut into the white card and layered with blue. The bubbles were then stamped, coloured with tri-blends, and die cut before layering with foam pads formore dimension.

(2) the middle layer has the bubbles and the bath with the lady snipped away. The bath has been die-cut from centura metallic card to give a coppery look and more bubbles and the duck added

(3) the last layer was everything including the lady 

(4)Finally,  the sentiment was edged with Parakeet ink and adhered to the inside back of the card.

First birthday card

Good afternoon again,

Today I am posting a Design Team make for Crafter's Companion that showcases the Cut in Dies and Sentiments. I deliberately chose a number that wasn't a typical milestone and the final size was dictated by the embossing folder that sprang to mind; albeit a very old one by CC, but definitely one of my favourites.

  

The Happy Birthday embossing folder is 5" x 7". I decided that the top layer would look good 3 1/4 x 6 1/2" but cut card a little larger. I die cut the number one in the centre before embossing a piece of luxury blue cardstock and trimmed to desired size.  This gave me the dimensions for the card base. Using my diagram, score the card base in 3 and the outside sections in half again, then the outside panels diagonally. My base was 11 1/4" x 7" and each large section was 3 3/4" wide. The narrow sections were half of 3 3/4 = 1 7/8" wide.

To cut the mats, I decreased the overall size by 1/4" in each direction for each layer. 

I wrapped ribbon around the embossed card before adhering it to the card base, which accented the "waist" of the card and added extra interest. 

The centre back panel is the ideal place to add your own greeting and  sentiment.

Floral Waves Zigzag card

Good evening,

I couldn't resist making another Zigzag card and had to try out a beautiful collection by The Paper Boutique called Floral Waves. 8x8 papers come with an embellishment pad, insert papers and plain background card.  I've had them a few weeks but have been far too busy to even think about cutting into them. 

Just to change it up a little I reversed the folds. For this card, all I used was one A4 sheet of background card to mat onto a white base and one A4 insert. I will add a sentiment and personalise it before sending. The template is linked to the previous post.

Zigzag card

Hi everyone,

I'm back with a new card fold that is really easy but effective. I've called it my zigzag card. Here it is decorated with the gorgeous new Sara's Signature Vintage Diary papers from Crafters Companion and it's another of my Design Team samples that I made for the launch of this Collection. 

I've added the ink pot die, cut in black card with added gilding wax.  The quill pen has been lightly inked and the edges of the papers have been blended to match the amount of distressing on the two different sized papers chosen.  The frame has been cut from 12 x 12 papers with the central design from the smaller paper pad.

On the centre panel is also a wooden corner embellishment from the collection and I've stamped one of the sentiments using the Adorning Sentiments.

I was inspired to make this card and template after seeing an image by Ewa S. whom I have been unable to contact. 

Front step fold card

 

Today I have a sweet front-step fold card to share with you that I made as Design Team Member for Crafter’s Companion for the launch of the Sara’s Signature Vintage Diary Collection.

This fold is popular as it folds flat to post and has real shelf-appeal. I got the entire card out of one sheet of A4 card 8.25 x 11.75 inches approx. See template below

For US letter size - your card is 1/4 " wider (add 1/8" to each neasurement) and little shorter. As long as you measure up from bottom your card will still work.

 

Instructions:

1.     cut card into 3 pieces as shown and set aside scrap piece

2.     score and burnish well all folds (mountain folds)

3.     decorate all pieces before assembling

4.     apply red liner tape to flaps. Stick together larger piece of card first

5.     smaller piece of card is adhered upside down as in finished picture – again using red liner tape. Fix other end of this panel where it sits comfortably.

I was inspired to make this by my friend Lisa Shaw of Nifty Noodles. I was unable to discern the original designer of this fold but will gladly credit them if they make me aware of their design.

 

Desk Tidy

I know we Crafters say that we get inspiration from everything, but over breakfast this morning I had a lightbulb moment; it wasn't the food or the company but the box! How can you get excited over a box that you've seen many times before? 

I was asked onto the design team of Crafters Companion last October and so have been really busy making samples for them ever since.  Just lately it has been quite manic and my desk has been covered with various parts of new collections that I have needed to keep in order. My lightbulb moment should really help.

Here is what I  made today while "playing".

 It started life as my cereal box and now stands proudly on my desk ready to hold die cuts, scrap design paper and precut card pieces.

It was very straightforward and I took a few pictures as I went along (excuse the mess - this is why I need the tidy!

The finished size is 4" deep, 7" tall at back and 7 1/2" wide (10cm x 17.5cm x19cm).

I started by drawing a line halfway along one side of the box and then across the width at 45 degrees. To do this i measured the width, marked down the length by the same amount and drew a diagonal line. I started cutting with a scalpel but finished with my favourite scissors.

After having glued the opening end shut, I adhered the 2 pieces of the box together as shown. I bound the edges withconstruction  tape ( but washi tape would also look pretty).

I covered the repurposed box in  Heartfelt Creations Butterfly Medley papers. It took just over 2 sheets. I finished the inside with co-ordinating scraps from another sheet and papered the bottom with all remaining scraps like a patchwork quilt.
